The importance of local forums on the open web

Recently, we shared some information about the Bell Green gasholders on Twitter.

There were replies from two Twitter users, but worryingly, Twitter automatically prevented one of these users from seeing the other’s tweets:

This kind of automated, inexplicable censorship underlines the importance of forums like SE26.life, which operate on the open web, are moderated by a team of local people, and which clearly show moderation actions (eg splits, merges etc), for transparency and accountability.

If we allow all conversation to migrate to closed, walled-garden networks like Twitter and Facebook, we may one day find ourselves the victim of the above arbitrary moderation, with no recourse.
