You’ve read the book! Now walk the walk!
Unstoppable local hero Steve @ldn_calling_blog has kindly agreed to lead a walking tour around Penge’s street art hotspots on Sunday 27 January, leaving at 10.30am from Penge East station. This will be a chance to learn the stories behind more than 100 amazing walls, as well as to see some of the artists at work. It’s completely free but any donations - no matter how small - for @stchrishospice would be much appreciated
The walk will include 17 brand new works, painted for the Anything’s Better Than A Blank Wall paint jam, which London Calling Blog dedicated to my dad, graffiti photographer Gordon Gibbens, who died in April 2017. Dad loved the street art in Penge, and made some of his final trips from St Christopher’s to see it. There’s no way he’d have missed this tour - so we hope as many people as possible will ‘be more Gordon’ and come along, whatever the weather
We’ll be there, of course - both as street art fans and to subtly rattle a collecting tin. And if you haven’t got a copy of How Graffiti Saved My Dad’s Life (At Least For A While), we’ll have some available - or see the link in our bio to purchase online. All profits go to St Christopher’s.
Massive thanks to Steve, the artists and everyone else who has helped put Penge firmly on the street art map - and in so doing helped my family through a very difficult time
